Airport Project Near Complete:
After many years of patiently waiting, we can finally say that the major work for the aiport improvement project is complete. The only portion that is not complete is the Instrument Landing System (ILS).
This project began more than five years ago with the land acquisition process and construction planning. It wasn't until the spring of 2005 that dirt was actually moved. The process started with the parallel taxiway. The plan called for the taxiway to constructed to the full length of 5,800 feet and to remove the thirty degree dog-leg near the north end.
In the summer of 2006, with the taxiway complete and acting as a temporary runway, the old tattered runway was torn apart and prepared for reconstruction. While dodging rain and other natural hindrances, workers moved diligently to complete the 5,800 by 100 feet concrete surface before winter set in.
The final phase of surface reconstruction has just recently been completed. This phase encompassed the ramp area, new tie down and fuel pump pads, and t-hangar access roads. With all of this work complete the flow of traffic and access to hangars should be nearly unrestricted. It's been a long time coming but the hard parts of the project are finally complete.
